ONE DAY IN SALZBURG - DAY TRIP FROM VIENNA
Being a tourist in your own country is something I do not often enough - thus I was so excited to finally (re)visit the beautiful city again for a day from Vienna. We booked (veeeryyy) early trains from Vienna to Salzburg upfront (can highly recommend as you save quite a bit, if you already know you want to spend a day in the city) and arrived around 09:00 in Salzburg. We then picked up the Salzburg Card for the day which was really practical. From public transport to the entrance of many museums, if you’re interested in the main sights in the city it is really worth it in my opinion!
After a lovely oriental brunch (read more below), we went to the castle and enjoyed the view from the top. As we wanted to check out some museums with special exhibitions. We first went to the DomQuartier, head a lovely coffee (and some for home of course too) at 220 Grad and then visited the modern museum. After a stroll around the Getreidegasse we took a walk around passing the Café Sacher to the Mirabell garden before we then ended our day trip with a lovely dinner at Humboldt. A perfect getaway from Vienna! :)
What’s your favorite spot in Salzburg? I will be back for sure soon to check out more places in this lovely city soon! :)
Lots of love,
Magda
MY FAV SPOTS IN SALZBURG
YAZZOON
This brunch is a culinary trip to the Orient in the heart of Salzburg. We loved the amazing brunch platter to share with many amazing creamy dips such as homemade hummus, labneh and baba ganoush over shakshuka, falafel, salads to sweet treats and fresh fruits.
Museum der Moderne
Lovely baroque-style museum with a courtyard, showing graphics & photographs by modern Austrian artists. There’s actually a second, larger location up on the Mönchsberg with a stunning view over the city - definitely on my list for next time.
DomQuartier
This historical museum is one of those places where history and art blend beautifully. Walking through the museum, you’ll find an impressive collection of European paintings from the 16th to 19th centuries - we were lucky to catch a fascinating Tony Cragg exhibition during our visit. What really stayed with me, though, were the grand state rooms; they give you such a vivid sense of the building’s former life and importance. The architecture alone is worth the visit - think ornate ceilings, gilded details etc.
220 Grad
If you’re looking for amazing speciality coffee in Salzburg, you will quickly end up at the famous 220 Grad. They roast their own speciality coffee (since 2008) also serve breakfast and tasty cakes (mango cheesecake!!). There’re actually several locations of 220 Grad: Rupertinum, Nonntal & Kaffeerösterei. Of course I got some coffee for home so I can enjoy their tasty beans also in Vienna.
Humboldt. Organic Brunch, Restaurant & Bar
The day trip to Salzburg ended perfectly with dinner at this lovely spot. At Humboldt everything is organic and thoughtfully prepared, and you can really taste the quality the lovely team puts into the menu. We had the beetroot-cured trout, a super refreshing lemonade and I especially loved the goat cheese mousse, which was beautifully presented. You can of course also get Austrian classics such as Schnitzel or Käsespätzle - perfect place if you're looking for a nice evening with delicious food in the heart of Salzburg.
