my top fav (vegan/VEGGIE) lunch spots in Vienna are (SORTED BY DISTRICT):
1010 Innere Stadt
Ballrooom - damn good dumplings
As the name suggests this amazing place is my go to lunch spot for one of my soul-food: tasty vegan dumplings. All of their dumplings are home-made with fresh & natural ingredients and you can choose from a great variety of options for every taste. My favorite ones are the vegan dumplings with tofu and mushrooms, but you should also not miss their seasonal specialities! There are two locations, one in 1090 (Maria-theresien-straße 5) and one in 1010 (Wipplingerstraße 1).
OMK 1010 (& 1020)
The big sister of the original location on Praterstrasse (1020) is a hotspot for lunch in the heart of Vienna. Whether you're dining in or grabbing something to go, you'll find a delicious selection of sushi rolls, noodle soups, bowls and more Japanese delicious dishes. I especially love their spicy watermelon salad, fresh sushi roll, and the wakame seaweed salad.
Josefins Salatbar
This new hotspot in the heart of the first district offers a great variety of fresh salads ideal for lunch. You can choose between vegan, veggie and fish/ meat options and mix up your fav ones. Also they’re serving delicious treats, coffee and matcha. Perfect for a healthy lunch in the middle of Vienna - really loved it!
1020 Leopoldstadt
Budapest Bagel
I love bagels and there's definitely only one place for me in Vienna namely Budapest Bagel! Whether it's Breaky Bägels (until 11:00), Sweet Bägels (all day) or the classic Bägels (all also available in vegan), there really is something for everyone here. My favourite is hard to say, but the Salmon & Blueberry Bagel are definitely high up the list!
Salzi
This new hotspot in the 2nd district is serving super tasty bowls for lunch (11:00 - 15:00). We tried the green hummus bowl with broccoli, fennel, nut crackers, pickled onions and fresh herbs as well as the red hummus bowl with edamame, baked beetroot, fresh herbs, pickled onions and more. Really super fresh, nourishing and tasty! There’s also a salad bowl and many other small plates such as hummus, sandwich and of course sweet treats on the menu. Don’t forget to try their amazing coffee and matcha too!
Erste Wiener Tofu Manufaktur
If you’re a tofu lover like me or think tofu is “boring” you need to head to the first Viennese tofu manufacturer on the Karmelitermarkt. Liwei and his team are makingtheir tofu fresh daily either to be enjoyed directly in their lovely shop or to be taken home. There are always two weekly new dishes - from tofu tartar over mapo tofu with veggie to an Austrian fusion with pumpkin & soy sauce.
Buddha Bowls by Elena’s
For me, the best buddha bowls in Vienna are definitely the ones at Elena's beautiful restaurants! They are made with fresh, regional organic ingredients and you can customize them with many super tasty options such as homemade kimchi, hummus or falafel. I love to grab my bowl and enjoy it either in their cute little garden in the 2nd district or take it to go and have a buddha bowl sunset picknick at the closeby Donaukanal.
You can get the bowls in one of their two locations at Wollzeile 23 (1010) or Praterstraße 16 (1020).
La Mesa
The veggie & vegan kitchen offers super tasty breakfast, lunch & coffee in a really cute location in the 2nd district. The lovely team cooks fresh every day, a lot is in organic quality and you can also enjoy their menu to go (and bring your own container). We really enjoyed our lunch: baked zucchini with veggie couscous and tomato sauce as well as a veggie paella with beans and artichokes.
1060 Mariahilf
Secret Garden Café Restaurant
This place has been kept a secret for too long and thus I’m so happy to spread the word about this fully vegetarian & vegan lunch spot. I love to come for lunch especially in summer as their garden is really a dream come true in the middle of the city. Their lunch menu changes daily and is carefully selected with high-quality ingredients - you can always choose between a vegetarian and vegan menu option. They also offer vegan cakes to preorder for your birthday or any other special occasion.
Shiso Burger
If you’re a lover of burgers and the Asian cuisine like me then you will for sure enjoy these tasty Shiso burgers! The vegan & vegetarian options were really delicious - my favorite is the crispy tofu burger. Also their homemade lemonades with shiso was really nice. They recently also opened a second location in the first district at Hoher Markt.
1070 Neubau
Karma Food
If you’re looking for delicious curries, colourful bowls, homemade cakes & tasty coffee you need to add Karma Food to your lunch list. The Indian soulfood restaurant is the perfect place for your takeaway lunch when you want it to be quick, healthy and taste good. I do love to enjoy their weekly changing lunch menu also in their beautiful restaurants (there are more than 7 of them in Vienna and Klosterneuburg), especially the one in 1070. My go to is their daily curry special as well as their mango lassi and vegan cakes.
Matteo homemade Pasta & Italian Tapas
If you’re looking for some dolce vita feeling in Vienna you need to have pranzo (italian for lunch) at Matteo in the 7th district. You can choose from a wide selection of typical Italian plates in a smaller size to share as well as homemade pasta. I also love their colorful tableware and the parmigiana is my fav!
Ali Juus
This lovely spot is not only an experimental juice bar but also offers amazing breakfast and lunch. The menu includes for example blackberry, pecan & goat cheese salad and the watermelon, tomato and vegan feta salad. They also serve toasty (bread from Meinklang) and wraps with for example homemade hummus. Actually the owners have been supplying fresh fruit juices to five-star hotels, restaurants, bars, etc. across Austria for >10y and now recently opened their first space in Vienna & I have to say I’m really happy they did - you really feel their passion and expertise in their high quality products & food!
Bao Bar
There are more and more places offering bao buns but in my opinion the most delicious ones can be found at the bao bun institution of Vienna: the bao bar. The tasty asian streetfood is always a great idea for a super delicious and quick lunch. Their vegan menu includes fancy or normal tofu bao buns as well as tofu rice bowls, homemade sweet potato fries, kimchi fries and freshly made edamame. They have one location in the 7th, one in the 4th and one in the 2nd district.
1080 Josefstadt
Olive
This new cafe & concept store in the heart of the 8th district has become to one of my go to places for lunch quickly! The lovely team is preparing fresh plates every day and so the menu is changing according to the season. We loved their summer salad and their fresh breads. I still need to try the cakes and also check out their beautiful jewelry!
1090 Alsergrund
Cafe Telegraph
This lovely brunch & lunch spot is located in a former post office and thus intended to be a link between old and new. Like the Telegraph, the restaurant likes to connect people, nationalities & cultures with their diverse range of dishes. Thus you will be able to order and enjoy for example falafel waffles, crunchy edamame bowl, creamy hummus or a keto avocado tower. Only the best regional and seasonal ingredients from Austria are used for their tasty menu.
Honu Tiki Poke Bowls
Are you also a big fan of the delicious Hawaiian Honu Tiki Bowls? The mix of fresh fruit, vegetables and protein combined with delicious dressings and sauces are my absolute favourite for a quick and balanced lunch. I love making my own bowls at Honu Tiki Bowl, but also the signature vegan bowls are so delicious too! There are several locations in Vienna, my favorite one is the one next to the alte AKH as you then can enjoy your poke bowl in the beautiful park & sun!
Swing Kitchen
Fancy fresh, juicy vegan burgers, crispy fries and tempting desserts for lunch? Then you absolutely have to visit the best vegan burger spot Swing Kitchen in Vienna! My favourite combo is the classic swing burger with the juicy soy patty and sweet potato fries - but you shouldn't miss out on the specials, salads and desserts either! There are many locations all over Vienna (and actually Austria, Switzerland and Germany) so you can for sure enjoy your plant-based burger for a tasty lunch break.
1160 Ottakring
Frei Yoga Cafe
This wonderful little oasis recently opened on Thaliastrasse in 1160 Vienna. At Frei Yoga Cafe, you will not only find delicious vegan and vegetarian food, but also great yoga classes and a wonderful, peaceful garden. The focus is on seasonal, regional and organic food without waste. That's why the menu is full of creative and changing dishes. I also love that they focus on "local superfoods" - so instead of banana bread, you will be able to enjoy a regional juicy apple bread.
Cafe Yppster
Lovely new spot at the Yppenplatz for breakfast and lunch with a beautiful outside seating area. I really liked their nourishing quinoa bowl with loads of fresh veggies, hummus, feta and chickpeas. The team is super kind and I’ll be back for brunch for sure!
